Each year, Madrid plays host to music, dance, zarzuelas (Spanish musicals), theatre and bullfights as the Veranos de la Villa (Summer in the City) festival takes over the city's major cultural venues. The main venues include Cuartel del Conde Duque (concerts and contemporary dance), La Muralla Arabe (theatre, opera, dance and circus), Jardines de Sabatini (concerts), Casa de América (concerts and exhibitions) and outdoor events in various squares and parks from the Puerta del Sol to the Retiro. Lake Como Festival, Italy
The Lake Como Festival features a number of jazz, blues and symphonic music performances, along with firework displays and a collection of celebrity appearances. The festival kicks off with the Lario Jazz & Rhythm 'n' Blues programme, featuring around 30 international artists, and continues through the summer with a programme of modern and romantic music perfromances, often accompanied by fireworks. Budafest Summer Opera & Ballet Festival
The Budafest Summer Opera & Ballet Festival is a collection of opera and ballet productions at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, with additional al fresco concerts outside the Basilica and at the Hilton Dominican Court.Last year’s perfromances included the Hungarian Virtuosos Orchestra, a flamenco night with Andrea Lippai, a Latin night with the Patricio Baeza Band, concerts by the Bolyki Brothers, the Budapest Klezmer Band and the Hot Jazz Band. Opera included Puccini's Tosca and Verdi's Otello, and ballet, The Taming of the Shrew. The Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Kodály-Bartók World Orchestra, Hungarian Telecom Symphonic Orchestra and the Ernõ Dohnányi Symphonic Orchestra all performed in front of the Basilica.
